Cycle Challenge Update

Guest User

Good Morning

Just a quick update for everyone helping us to promote the European Cycle Challenge across Greater Manchester.  We’re now over a week into the Challenge so here are a few stats:

·         We have clocked up over 12,000km so far within GM boundaries and are currently 21st out of 52 cities across Europe

·         We have had over 700 people register via the app, but only around 300 people have so far registered 10km or more (‘Active Participants’)

·         The Top 5 teams in terms of ‘km inside boundary per member’  are:

o   Bolton Council

o   Gazprom

o   Love Your Bike

o   CCMCC

o   Eversheds Sutherland

·         Our first 3 weekly prize winners have been drawn and they are:

o   1st prize £150 shopping vouchers  – Cyclefitz

o   2nd prize £75 shopping vouchers  – Reidme

o   3rd prize – £50 shopping vouchers Clare.07

We will continue to do weekly prize draws every Monday throughout the challenge, so it’s worth joining in even as you go through the month. Winners are drawn at random from all ‘active participants’ so it’s well worth encouraging those who have registered but not logged 10km yet to get on their bikes and start recording! There will also be a Team Prize at the end of the Challenge.

Please continue to promote the challenge via any of your channels, especially via social media, using the #ecc2017eu hashtag.

You can download the most up to date version of the ‘digital toolkit’ which should help with this, please click here.

Come on everyone, let’s try and get into the Top Ten by this time next week!

Any questions, please email: cycling@tfgm.com

Kind regards

City centre road closure to affect Metrolink

Guest User

Transport bosses are warning Metrolink customers to expect disruption due to an unsafe building.

Mosley Street in the city centre has been closed to all traffic and pedestrians, and the following Metrolink services are affected:

  • The Altrincham service is operating between Altrincham to Deansgate-Castlefield only.
  • The Eccles service is operating between Eccles to Cornbrook via MediaCityUK only.
  • The Manchester Airport service is operating between Manchester Airport to Firswood Only.
  • The Ashton service is operating between Ashton to Piccadilly Station only.
  • The Bury to Altrincham service is being diverted through Exchange Square.

Unaffected services:

  • Bury to Piccadilly
  • Rochdale to East Didsbury (2CC)
  • Shaw to East Didsbury (2CC)

Rail tickets are being accepted between Deansgate-Castlefield and Piccadilly.

Danny Vaughan, Head of Metrolink, said: “The closure of Mosley Street has impacted Metrolink services through the city centre. We are running a reduced service on the Altrincham, Eccles, Ashton and Manchester Airport lines to ensure the safety of our customers.

“Mosley Street will remain closed until the building can be assessed, so we don’t yet know how long the disruption will last for. We are advising all customers to allow extra time for journeys while the road closure is in place, particularly those heading into the city tonight and over the weekend.

“We will update the Metrolink website when more information becomes available. Customers can also follow @MCRMetrolink on Twitter for regular updates.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but unfortunately the road closure is beyond our control and customer safety is our utmost priority.”

More information is also available on by calling Metrolink Customer Services on 0161 205 2000.

Summer cycling: how not to arrive at work a sweaty mess

Guest User

Summer is finally here and with it, hopefully, some sunshine. It’s hard to beat the feeling of gliding along with the sun shining down but when you’re headed to work it can come with its challenges.

No one wants to arrive at work sweaty and rumpled (your colleagues probably won’t love it if you’ve spent your commute trying to conquer a Strava segment either).

But help is at hand, just follow our super simple tips and you'll stay cool and collected this summer.
